A fine late Victorian sterling silver vesta case, hallmarked Birmingham 1894–95. Birmingham was the heart of England's silver trade during the Victorian era, and this piece exemplifies the quality and craftsmanship for which the city's assay office was renowned. Compact and elegantly proportioned, it would have been an indispensable gentleman's accessory during the height of the smoking age.
The case displays a beautifully developed patina consistent with its age, and retains excellent structural integrity the hinged lid opening and closing crisply, as one would expect of a well-made piece. A wonderful example of everyday Victorian luxury.
A superb addition to any collection of antique silver, Victorian pocket accessories, or smoking ephemera.
