An exceptionally rare early Victorian sterling silver vesta case, hallmarked Birmingham 1846–1847. Dating to the very dawn of the vesta case era friction matches only became widely available in the 1830s and 1840s this piece represents one of the earliest forms of the pocket match safe, making it a truly significant find for the serious collector.
Crafted in sterling silver and bearing a clear Birmingham assay hallmark, this case speaks to the high standard of English silversmithing at the height of the early Victorian period. It has developed a beautiful, deep patina over nearly 180 years, with the structural integrity and fine detail one would hope to find in a piece of this age and rarity.
An outstanding acquisition for collectors of antique silver, early Victorian accessories, or the history of everyday objects.
